There are beautiful, wonderful children, waiting for the right family to find them.
Hennepin County’s Waiting Children have birthparents who have been involved in the child protection system. Through the court system the birthparents rights have been terminated, meaning that the birthparents no longer have legal or physical custody of their children thus making them free for adoption. The State of Minnesota provides guardianship to the children through the county child protection system.
The children range in age from 1 year to 18 years of age and include both single children and groups of siblings waiting for a home in which they can be adopted together. The majority of Hennepin County’s Waiting Children are school-aged children with a range of special needs, and children of color, primarily African-American and Native American. Native American children may be covered under the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA).
Hennepin County makes adoption placement decisions with the best interests of the children the top priority.
The photo listings on our web site of Hennepin County's Waiting Children are only one of the tools we use to find permanent, adoptive families for our children. At any given time there are between 50 -100 children in need of an adoptive home.
