A core public health function is to assure that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are available to the public. The EMS Planning and Regulatory Unit provides planning support and regulatory oversight for the county’s EMS system and assures coordinated emergency response to 911 calls. The system includes five advanced life support ambulance providers authorized by the state to operate within Hennepin County, public safety agencies (police and fire departments), and hospitals.
