Hundreds of fairs, markets, races and block parties are held in Hennepin County each year. With all the food waste, packaging and beverage containers, a lot of waste can be generated at events of any size.
Collecting beverage and food containers for recycling and organics – which includes food waste and non-recyclable paper products – for composting can greatly reduce waste generation at events. With careful planning, events can even be waste-free. Whether you are organizing a large multi-day street fair, triathlon, graduation party or weekly farmers market, the following resources will help you hold a successful, low- or no-waste event.
Hennepin County can help event coordinators develop waste-reduction plans, educate vendors, train volunteers and find collection options. For more information, email the event recycling program coordinator or call 612-596-0993.
