Hennepin County has a variety of resources and services available for people experiencing homelessness, through both county and community providers. Please see below to find services that may apply to you.

Families with children and pregnant women

Hennepin County families in need of emergency shelter should apply between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the 1st floor of Century Plaza, 330 S. 12th St, Minneapolis, MN.

After 5:00 pm, and on weekends and holidays, call 211 to be referred to the after hours shelter team.

Domestic violence

If you are escaping a violent relationship and are in need of shelter, please call Day One at 1-866-223-1111. 

Day One is a central phone line that will connect you with all available domestic violence shelters in the state, starting with the one nearest to you. Their trained advocates will assist you in accessing these shelters. Please call 1-866-223-1111.

Homeless youth

If you are under the age of 21, a youth shelter may be available for you. There are several youth shelters in Minneapolis—please see below to find the one best suited for you.

  • County Shelter
    Youth over the age of 18

  • The Bridge for Youth, call 612-377-8800
    10 to 17-year-old males and females who are able to be reunified with family; 16 to 18-year-olds, overnight stay only, for youth unable to be reunified with family
  • Avenues for Homeless Youth, call 612-522-1690
    16 through 20-year-old males and females
  • Hope Street Shelter, call 612-827-9372
    16 through 20-year-old males and females. All families of youth are contacted if possible.

If you are a parenting teen, you should follow the instructions for Family Shelter at the top of the page. The youth shelters cannot accommodate families.

Single adults

Hennepin County single adults in need of emergency shelter should apply at:
Century Plaza, 330 S. 12th St, Minneapolis, MN, 3rd floor, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The single adult contracted shelters are Salvation Army Harbor Lights and Catholic Charities. Homeless Single Adults can also call the Shelter Team at 612-348-3007

Three private shelters (St. Stephen's, Our Saviour's, and Simpson Shelters) hold a combined weekly lottery every Monday night at Simpson Shelter:
2740 1st Ave S, Minneapolis 55404 (28th and Nicollet)

  • Doors open at 6 p.m.
  • You must arrive by 6:30 p.m.
  • Do not arrive before 5:45 p.m.
  • All lottery participants must be sober on the night of the lottery
