There are many opportunities to recycle in Hennepin County. Our Recycling Guide (also available in Spanish) has a list of materials that are accepted for recycling. Remember to reduce and reuse first, and learn more about recycling below.

Residential Recycling

  • Your city recycling coordinator is your point person for information on recycling and trash disposal in your city.
  • Live in an apartment or condo? Property owners are required to provide occupants with the opportunity to recycle. Call your city recycling coordinator if this service is not available. Visit our multifamily recycling page for more information.

Commercial Recycling

Two-thirds of business waste is recyclable! Please visit our commercial recycling page if you would like to start or expand the recycling program at your business or organization.

School Recycling

Nearly 80 percent of school waste is recyclable or compostable, and school recycling programs present a great opportunity to educate future generations about waste reduction, recycling and overall environmental stewardship. Our school recycling program provides free signs, stickers and technical assistance to any school in the county.
