About the project area
Hennepin County is planning to make safety improvements on Park Avenue (County Road 33) and Portland Avenue (County Road 35) between I-94 and 46th Street (County Road 46). Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
Park and Portland are a pair of one-way roads with buffered bike lanes that run from downtown through south Minneapolis. This safety project will provide improvements to enhance separation between people biking and vehicle traffic, reduce vehicle speeds, shorten crossing distances at intersections, upgrade pedestrian ramps to current standards, and replace outdated traffic signals.
Project goals
As we prepare for this project, we want to hear about how you use Park and Portland avenues and how you think they should look in the future. Our project goals include goals for design as well as engagement.
- Provide enhanced crossing opportunities for people walking, rolling and biking
- Create safe, comfortable and convenient places for people biking
- Implement design elements to calm vehicle travel speeds
Public engagement
The project team is out in the community in 2024 asking for your feedback on existing conditions of the corridor. Future opportunities to engage with the project will be posted here as they are confirmed.
