Oath of Office

The swearing in ceremony for elected government officials is a sacred, time-honored tradition. Our elected leaders who take the Oath of Office swear to serve our residents dutifully and uphold the constitutions of the United States and Minnesota.

County commissioners, sheriff and attorney terms serve four-year terms with elections staggered every two years. In 2024, four returning commissioners, a were elected by the people of Hennepin County. They are:

• Jeffrey J Lunde, District 1 (incumbent)
• Debbie Goettel, District 5 (incumbent)
• Heather Edelson, District 6 (incumbent)
• Kevin Anderson, District 7 (incumbent)

This year’s Oath of Office ceremony will be held in-person at the 625 Building Auditorium on January 7. The ceremonies will be streamed and available to view on demand.
